Katherine Jean (West) Kiger, 80, of Terre Haute, IN, formerly of Marshall, Illinois, passed away at her daughter’s home on April 29, 2026.

Katherine was born in Terre Haute, Indiana, on September 8, 1945, to Frank and Jackie West who preceded her in death. Surviving are her sisters: Linda (Wayne) Manwaring and Paulette (Jack) Jones.

She was a 1963 graduate of Wiley High School. Katherine moved around the country with her husband who served in the military.

She worked at GTE as a customer service representative for many years. She then worked at AAA Terre Haute. Following retirement, Kathrine worked part-time at the Marshall Public Library. This was by far her favorite place to work. She was an avid reader that truly enjoyed sharing her love of reading with others.

Katherine married Ronald Lee Kiger on July 19, 1962, who preceded her in death just four days shy of their 61st wedding anniversary.

Together they had two children, Veronica (Tim) Shumaker and Brian (Amy) Kiger. She has seven grandchildren: Stephanie (Don) Dicus, Ryan (Amanda) Shumaker, Trice (Christian) Sumaker, Gavin (Jazmine) Kiger, Kennedy (Gordon) Kiger, Veronica Kiger, and Grant Kiger. As well as her great-grandchildren, Haylee (Ethan) Dicus, Alyssa (Preston) Dicus, Emma Dicus, Hunter Shumaker, Rosalie Shumaker, Violet Shumaker and Gordon John Adams. And a great-great grandson, Theodore.

She is preceded in death by her grandchild Courtney Jean Shumaker and great-grandchild Elle Marie Shumaker.

Memorial services were held at 2:00 p.m. (CDT) on Sunday, May 3rd at Pearce Funeral Home in Marshall, Illinois. Visitation was held from 12 Noon until service time Sunday at the funeral home. Dr. Tom Savage officiated.
